Choosing The Right Coating For Your Building

Posted on: 5 September 2019

When you are considering coatings for the exterior of your commercial building, paint alone might not be the answer. You may want to use an architectural coating, instead. There are some good reasons to consider these coatings as options.

Combining Paint and Primer

When you start looking at architectural coatings, one advantage is that most of the coatings available contain both paint for the exterior of your building and a primer that promotes adhesion. Applying the coating to your building is fast and easy because you can eliminate several steps along the way.

These coatings are thicker and may be harder to apply than standard paint, but the durability of the product and ease of applications makes them much more cost-effective for many building owners.

Colors and Finishes

Using an architectural coating does not mean you are limited to just a few paint colors, in fact, many companies offer colors and mixing for these specialty coatings that are on par with regular paints and in some cases, custom colors are an option if you find the right vendor.

If you have a special color that your company uses and you want to put it on your building, you can more then likely order it and have it applied. For companies that use specific colors as part of their brand, it is important that they find that color or have it mixed so they retain the familiar look that customers have come to expect.

Hiring a Contractor to Apply Your Coating

Because the consistency of architectural coatings is thicker, applying the material to a building can be harder to do if you hope to  achieve a professional finish. The best option may be to hire a contractor that has experience working with these coatings. The contractor will have the equipment to properly apply the coating and the experience to mix, cut, and work with the material so that you get the best possible finish on your building.

Working with a contractor is a good way to shorten the time it takes to have the coating applied on the building and can save you money with less product waste, eliminating the need to rent special equipment, and taking the time away from other things. If you have a large building, ladders lifts or scaffolding would also be required, which adds to the cost of the job. The contractor on the other hand, will provide the equipment and do the work, freeing you up to run your business.
